Myopia Control

KIDS SHOULD GROW STRONGER.

Their nearsightedness shouldn’t.

Slowing the Progression of Nearsightedness (MYOPIA) Starts Here at OCEAN EYECARE

Myopia Control

What is Myopia?

Myopia = Nearsightedness and it is not just a refractive condition that can be corrected with glasses. Myopia is a progressive disease and we now have effective, safe treatments to significantly slow down and reduce its progression.

Whether or not your child complains about not being able to see objects at a distance—such as the board at the front of their classroom, might have a condition called myopia. It’s more commonly known, though, as nearsightedness.

The eyes of a child with myopia become abnormally longer over time, which causes distant objects to appear blurry, and it worsens as your child grows, so does the risk of eye diseases that grow with it.

The Consequences of Untreated Myopia

When left undiagnosed and untreated, myopia (nearsightedness) can lead to a host of complications, such as reduced ability to learn, and later in life:2

  • Cataracts tend to develop sooner in nearsighted eyes.

  • Nearsighted people are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop glaucoma.

  • Myopia increases the risk of retinal detachment and macular disease. Every diopter increases the risk significantly.

Your eye doctor here at Ocean Eyecare can perform an eye examination to determine if the vision issues you’re experiencing are caused by myopia — and put a treatment plan in place that may prevent further complications associated with progression of myopia.

We offer night lenses (orthok), Day lenses (MiSight), Myopia glasses (Stellest) and Atropine drops for Myopia Control.

Together we will determine which treatment works best for your child’s eyes.
